HASLETT - Friday Sept. 14 the Haslett Vikings upset the Fowlerville Gladiators 41-13 in what could have been their first upset of the season.
A scoreless first quarter, it would be Logan Cross for Haslett with a 73-yard touchdown with only four minutes left in the half.
Fowlerville would quickly answer but would miss the extra point, and the Haslett offense would move the ball down the field and Hyrum Tibbits would put the Vikings up 13-6 going into halftime.
“One of the things we were frustrated about the last couple of weeks was we felt like we haven't played a complete game, both for the Sexton game and last week against Mason. Give those teams credit but I thought we did a great job of that tonight,”said Haslett Head Football Coach, Charlie Otlewski.
The second half of the game Haslett would pull ahead, and Ben Brittain would record two touchdowns for the Vikings, then backup quarterback, Xander Thelen would come in for Hyrum Tibbit’s and Mateo Medrano would close the game out a 39-yard touchdown reception.
“I thought they did a great job. It's tough sometimes were not a ‘ra ra group’. It's not like an emotional roller coaster pregame. I think sometimes that worries some of our coaches but I think our kids are confident, I think they understand what they had to do and I was real proud of how they came out and executed and did the things that we haven't done the last two weeks,” said Otlewski.
The Gladiator’s would get only one more touchdown on the board the rest of the night and the Haslett Vikings would take this one 41-13. They remain undefeated (4-0) and will travel to Williamston High School next Friday.
