MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - There will be a new local hot spot developed in the next few months here in Meridian Township. The nationally recognized Tilted Kilt Restaurant will soon join the Red Cedar Flats apartments located off of Grand River Avenue.
Back in 2015, Red Cedar Flats came to Meridian Township's Planning Department and shared the idea of redeveloping the property. Previously an office complex back in the early 70's, developers thought the buildings were too dated and wanted to change them into something new.
"When the developer came along, they chose to use the MUPUD Development Process, known the Mixed Use Plan Unit Development. By using this process, they have to put a commercial tenant into the 11,000 square foot area below the apartments," said Peter Menser, Meridian Township's Senior Planner.
Just a few couple weeks ago they received final plans for the Tilted Kilt. This franchise specializes in Scottish themed attire for their wait staff, and has a mix of traditional pub food on their menu. This location will be an indoor restaurant with an addition of an outdoor patio.
The restaurant plans to open its doors by the end of this year.
