MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - This year marks the 24th annual Senior Health and Fitness Day. Meridian Township celebrated the day by hosting their first annual event at Wonch Park. All seniors were encouraged to participate in this free event.
National Senior Health and Fitness Day aims to keep older Americans healthy and fit. Seniors were able to line dance, enjoy music, get more information on local programs and participant in various outdoor activities. Wonch Park has its own outdoor fitness zone, where participants were able to receive demonstrations on how to use the strength and conditioning equipment.
Playmakers was one of the local businesses in attendance and they gave a demonstration on how to have good form while walking. Good Form Instructor Louise Holman explained, "there are three points to it, which are posture, lean and landing and those are the three things we talked about today. And basically what we are trying to introduce to people is the idea and the concept of walking lighter and walking with shorter strides." Holman went on to say Playmakers offers an hour long course to help people learn how to walk properly.
Over one thousand events were hosted all over the U.S. in celebration of National Senior Health and Fitness Day.
