UPDATE:
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Parks & Recreation Department, recently held an unlikely event at Nancy Moore Park.
Amidst the freezing temperatures, ice and snow, seven teams came together to play kickball last weekend. The adult kickball league that takes place in summer had a chance to try their luck in January. These are not usually the normal conditions for kickball so various methods were used to keep up with the cold.
Greg Grothous, Meridian Township's Recreational Specialist, saw a variety of ways that teams delay with the abnormal kickball conditions. "We have a team here that brought a tent and they have some propane heaters to keep them warm. We have a fire going for all the teams to try and warm up with and of course the adult beverages I'm sure people are consuming to help with the cold".
The simple acts of throwing, catching and running were a challenge that made this experience a memorable one for everyone involved. They are hoping more teams will participate if the event happens again.
If you would like to join the league, you can sign up through the Meridian Township Parks and Recreation Department.
