MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A progressive group called the Meridian Township Berniecrats is growing in size.

John Veenstra, Candidate for Meridian Township Trustee states, "I think it's a good progressive group and I am glad they are supporting me. "

Team Berniecrats was founded by Meridian Township resident Mike McCurdy.

" I founded it in conjunction with a few fellow Meridian citizens who are interested in progressive change in Meridian Township," states McCurdy.

Team Berniecrats has endorsed Carol Siemon for Ingham County Prosecutor, Brett Dreyfus for Township Clerk, Kathy Sundland, Brett DeGroff, and John Veenstra for Trustee.

"Again each candidate has a different reason why we are supporting them but we are looking for progressive values," says McCurdy.

" It's a great group I hadn't heard of it till I got a Facebook message from Mike McCurdy," says Siemon. "I thought this is an interesting group of people; I am long time progressive."

"I am not an actual official member of the Berniecrats group , but I have been endorsed by them and I am grateful," says Dreyfus. " I am very grateful they selected me as a candidate that represented a lot of their interests.

" It definitely aligned with how I am feeling on a lot of issues," says Sundland. "I realize this is a newly formed group so this is exiting.

"I have lived here for 35 years and this is my first attempt in getting totally involved in Meridian Township."

"We are just looking to carry the momentum that Bernie Sanders has created in this country and really bring it to the local level to elect progressive candidates to help create a more progressive Township", states McCurdy.

"It feels wonderful," says Sundland. " I went in and these are people that don't know me very well and they have invited me to their group."
