EAST LANSING - Meridian Township its surrounding areas are quickly growing.

And there may be more growth coming to the community soon.

Costco gave an informal presentation in the Town Hall Room of the Meridian Municipal Building Thursday, June 2nd.

With standing room only, many residents and non-residents came out to voice their concerns and hear what the retail giant had to offer.

Costco's plan is to develop the former Four Winds Golf Course on the corner of Park Lake Road and Saginaw Highway - where there are not any big box stores.

Just north and east of the area is a Meijer store.

The 66 - acre site is unique with homes on the south and east side of the property.

Since 2001, the area is in East Lansing and is right on the border of Meridian Township.

A local resident, Steve Zaban stated, "Costco's plans seem pretty good and I support them."

"They seemed like they were very concerned about lighting, traffic, and doing the right thing for the community," continued Zaban.

"People that live close certainly have their concerns, but Costco's hours are limited and they close early on the weekends."

Another resident didn't understand why Costco would build in her backyard and felt traffic would be a huge issue.

Representatives of Costco said they looked at 12 sites and decided the location in East Lansing would be the best fit.

Peak hours for traffic were determined to be noon to
2:00 pm and the weekends.

Costco plans to have a building permit ready to submit by December 31st in order to build on the property.
