• El Oasis sells Mexican cuisine in Haslett

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - With the weather heating up, people are looking for more options for food.

Residents in Lansing say mobile vending units such as El Oasis, Maria’s Cuisine, and Detroit Frankie’s Wood Fire Pizza are growing in popularity.

One customer Trent Housler says he loves having a food truck in the community.

“If you haven’t been to a food truck, try it out; you are missing out on some of the best food in the city," said Housler.

The love of food has even made it’s way to Meridian Township.

Meridian Township’s Associate Planner, Peter Menser said opportunities for serving food in the township have expanded.

"In January 2016, The Meridian Township Board adopted a mobile food vending ordinance that allows under specific circumstances vendors or someone who wants to operate a food truck, food cart, or some kind of mobile operation here in certain zoning districts,” says Menser.

"We are excited to offer a license for a new type of business here and it definitely helps to provide a more dynamic economy here.”

Meridian Township currently has three mobile food units in operation: Daddy’s Little Grill which serves a variety of global treats, and there is also El Oasis which serves Mexican cuisine, but the newest addition to the township is Backyard
Bar BQ.

Owner Adam Zynda said he is excited to be in business and thanks Meridian Township.

"I was really glad they changed their rules a bit and made it a lot more accessible for people like me to come in and do business in a food truck," states Zynda.
