HASLETT - After finishing a strong 21-14 a season ago, Haslett hopes to build some momentum early in 2016, despite the loss of current Grand Valley freshman Zach Berry. The Vikings did just that, hosting Portland, in an opening day double header sweep.
The pitching stayed strong for Haslett all evening, posting a game one, 3-0, shutout and hanging in for a, 4-3, finish to game two. The Vikings will miss Berry's 2.67 ERA from a season ago, but the staff looks to be in good hands.
Haslett senior pitcher Drew Conlin had a commanding, 3-0, lead himself in game two, but Portland nearly mounted a late-inning comeback.
Haslett will take a two week break before starting back up on the road at East Lansing on April 12 at 4 p.m.
