MASON - As the playoffs progress, one would think the competition would get tougher, but for East Lansing (18-6), coming out of possibly the toughest district in the state of Michigan, the regional semis were a piece of cake. The Trojans took over from tip-off, crushing Battle Creek Lakeview, 56-32.
Again, it was East Lansing point guard Taryn McCutcheon leading the way with a game-high 18 points and five assists. The key beneficiary of those assists, running mate Jaida Hampton, and senior Danni Hanson followed close behind with 12 a piece.
With just about every Lady Trojans game, comes a McCutcheon to Hampton three-pointer. McCutcheon consistently drives the hole and kicks out to an open Hampton in the corner and, rarely, does she miss.
Jackson Nothwest takes on East Lansing in the regional finals Thursday night, 7 p.m., at Mason High.
