EAST LANSING - The Spartans had a Senior Day to remember in an onslaught, 91-76, victory over Ohio State. Michigan State (26-5) finished the regular season strong headed into tournament play led by, as seen on Saturday, a special class at the top.
Senior Denzel Valentine shot 9-of-13 from the field, 5-of-6 from three-point land, amassing 27 points with 13 assists to boot.
Valentine and fellow seniors Bryn Forbes, Matt Costello and Colby Wollenman were honored after the win in front of a packed arena, accompanied by their families.
State head coach Tom Izzo spoke fondly on each of his seniors and ended his Senior Day tribute speech with a bold statement.
"We've gone to seven Final Fours, but three of them I thought we had a legitimate chance to win going in," Izzo said at center court, in regards to a possible national championship. "I'm putting my neck on the line. This is the fourth."
Michigan State enters the Big Ten Tournament as a No. 2 seed and will face the winner of Penn State and Ohio State on Friday night at approximately 6:40 p.m.
