MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - During the previous Township Board meeting, the Hazard Mitigation plan was up for discussion.

Meridian Township is looking into adopting the plan to receive a grant.

The grant will cover the cost of removing houses in floodplains and will also lower the cost of insurance for residents who happen to own a home in a floodplain.

"We had a huge amount of flooding where I had to go buy a rescue boat to get people to their homes to get their medicine and things they needed," Fire Chief Fred Cowper said.

He said right at that moment he knew he had to take flooding very serious because it happens every year here in meridian.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan will be on action at the next Township Board meeting.
