MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Senior Center and East Lansing Prime Time hosted a special event of watching “Age of Love”, a documentary film about senior speed dating. Many residents and seniors at Meridian Township and East Lansing area gathered to watch this documentary film, directed and produced by Steven Loring.

“It is a film that covered people ages 70 through 90 and their experiences with the speed dating event that took place in New York. I think this film is wonderful. I think there are misconceptions out there about people having relationships or finding love over 70 and whether it's appropriate or inappropriate. Nobody likes to be lonely, no one wants to be isolated, and the documentary and the whole speed dating event isn't necessarily about you finding your next love of your life. It's more about companionship and empowerment and new ways to meet somebody that you may not otherwise meet,” said Cherie Wisdom, the Senior Center Coordinator at Meridian Senior Center.

The documentary film showed how many seniors think about companionship and love in their ages.

“Like some of the people in the film said, the desire for the partnership is the same as when I was younger, really,” said Hari Kaern, a resident of East Lansing, after watching the film.

Meridian Senior Center and East Lansing Prime Time will be also hosting their own senior speed dating event on February 12th, at East Lansing Hannah Community Center.

“We are really trying to focus on kind of broader connections and friendships. If someone finds a movie buddy, or even someone to talk on the phone that's a successful story for us, a successful outcome for us too,” said Lisa Richey, the Program Planner of East Lansing Prime Time.
