LANSING - The Tri-County Office on Aging held their 30th Annual Dinner and Auction Fundraiser in early November and the proceeds went toward Meals on Wheels.
Meals on Wheels executes their mission with volunteers delivering food to residents, "Last year our program served over 15,000 seniors," said Tri-County Office on Aging Nutrition Director, Carl Buonodono.
One volunteer in particular is John Olin, a 91 year old World War II Veteran who began on doctors orders after his wife passed.
"Well, the doctor said I should be active, I should not just sit around and mope and feel sorry for myself because I lost my wife so I started volunteering," said Olin.
Meals on Wheels provides a hot meal, cold meal, frozen meal and a tray for those who are unable to prepare or provide meals for themselves.
John's route usually takes an hour, however some stops take longer than others because of friends he's made.
"I enjoy every minute of it in fact I want to continue doing this until they throw the sod in my face," said the Meals on Wheels volunteer.
