MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The seasons are changing and cold weather is starting to swoop in. When traveling any distance, having an Emergency Car Kit should be a necessity.
"The use of these kits and having things available to you probably become less and less important now in the age of cell phones. But that being said if you do have an emergency and you're not able to get to your phone or you've forgotten your phone or your phone is disabled for whatever reason and you're not in an area where you have coverage and you're traveling you want to make sure you have some basic necessities with you," said Lt. Greg Frenger of the Meridian Police Department.
If you are creating your own Emergency Car Kit, you may want to add a few items that aren't provided in kits from stores to suit your personal needs. Having a kit in your car during a disaster may result in the difference being prepared in an emergency situation rather than being unprepared.
Some recommended items to pack in your Emergency Car Kit include a first-aid kit, work or latex gloves, jumper cables, blanket, jacket, boots, flashlight with fresh batteries, bottled water and granola or energy bars.
If you do not wish to create your own Emergency Car Kit they can be bought at retail stores such as Wal-Mart or ordered online.
