MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At the November 3rd Township Board meeting, the Board discussed the Smith Drain Study Results. At their last meeting the Board requested the Ingham County Drain Commissioner to provide costs associated with this project.
Spicer Group Engineer, John Ensign explained draft estimate costs and potential results saying, "Instead of digging a deep hole to store all the water, we could create some small berms, push water in around areas that already get a lot of water, don't have development potential."
One estimated cost for the drain could be roughly $1 million. Ensign stressed to the Board the costs he explained were only for the construction contract.
After hearing Ensign's results, some of the Board members were concerned about the Township's land percentage portion and the City of Lansing's land percentage.
Since this was a discussion item, there was no final conclusion as to what's next to come for the Smith Drain.
However, the Ingham County Drain Commissioner will keep the Board aware of future findings.
