EAST LANSING - Here is what I love, hate, and need to see more of when it comes to Spartan Basketball.
What I love? I love me some Tum-Tum. More than just about any other player on the roster this young man embodies the Spartan Spirit. He was raw when he came in but still managed to make his impact here and there and now that we are on to the latter part of his career we can see that he is getting it. Tum-Tum is a tough point guard and is perfect for the Spartans who don't need or want a purely scoring pg. The bahamas kid is starting to look and act the part of a leader which is an exciting prospect moving forward.
What do I hate? Well hate is strong word but I am not fond of the free throw line and the Spartans ability to score at it.
For a team that prides itself on fundamentals and development of those skills, the Spartans really struggle at the line and that has and will force them to play catch up in some games they should be winning outright. I know, that Izzo knows, this is a problem. I expect them to improve, how much they improve remains to be seen.
What do I want to see more of? the youth on the team.
It's not traditional Sparty basketball, but i want to see all of these young players get more than just garbage time throughout the regular season and into March. there are a number of players who scouts feel can play right away. With the new arms race that is college basketball, I fear the days of senior laden teams are a way of the past.
