EAST LANSING - With an undefeated football team, Michigan State fans may be forgetting there is that other team the made it to the Final Four last season, and it might just be better this year.
Spartans head coach Tom Izzo and his players spoke on the promise of this year's team and a hope for something more than another Final Four at Media Day.
"I'm just not very satisfied with it," Izzo said during the Tuesday afternoon press conference in reference to reaching Final Fours, Elite Eights and Sweet 16s .
"I think we are more talented. I think we are a better shooting team, potentially the best shooting team we have had."
Izzo's players kept the optimism going.
"We look like a team that can win a national championship," senior guard Valentine said.
The quest to such sweet air starts with Valentine, the voice of this year's squad.
"Denzel is definitely our vocal leader," Izzo said. "I could not think of a better guy kind of running us than him."
Fellow senior Bryn Forbes, the sharpshooter, made great strides in the off-season to be another guy the Spartans can count on.
"To me, he was our MVP of this summer," Izzo said about Forbes.
After tough competition in Italy, Izzo says point guard Lourawls 'Tum Tum' Nairn is determined,
"Tum Tum is sick," Izzo said on how often Nairn is at the gym. "He is in every day."
Okemos grad and MSU walk-on Conner George received a lot of praise, especially for his three-point stroke.
"He's as good as any shooter we've got," Izzo said.
George, not just a shooter, gets credit from his teammates for his grit.
"Conner, he brings it every day," Forbes said. "I don't expect anything less from him because every time he's on the court he is pretty intense."
