MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Round, and round, and round it goes-- where it stops, YOU need to know.
Believe it or not all drains do not lead to the same place, at least not right away. If you pour hazardous materials down a drain it doesn't make the materials not your problem, it makes them everybody's problem.
The two drains you need to know about are Sanitary Sewers and Storm Sewers.
The sanitary sewer system is a complex system of underground pipes that carry waste water from bathrooms, sinks and kitchens to a waste water treatment plant.
The storm sewer system was created to lead rainfall runoff to larger bodies of water. The water that goes down a storm sewer does NOT go to a waste water treatment plant. It is lead directly into your local streams, rivers, ponds and lakes.
Pouring hazardous materials down ANY drain can cause a lot of serious damage to the environment. Materials such as paints, solvents and cleaners should be taken to your local hazardous waste collection facility.
