EAST LANSING - Once the weather broke it was time for kickoff. This week Sparty welcomed in the Falcons for their second home game of the year. The Spartans coming off of their biggest win to date did not go hollywood and overlook this gritty Falcons team.
MSU struck first as Connor Cook connected on the first of his four touchdown passes on the afternoon to Josiah Price. The 15 yard reception was his second touchdown on the year so far. Cook did not turn the ball over the entire game, which is a big sigh of relief to Spartan Nation.
Now, if there is one thing the Spartans are known for, it is their defense. This time the defense knocked the ball loose on the ensuing possession which lead to a 64 yard return touchdown for Safety RJ Williamson. If there was a roof on Spartan Stadium, this is the part where it would have blown off.
However, the Falcons did manage to hit paydirt with under 2 minutes left in the first. A string of penalties and some solid ground and pound brought the score to 14-7 to end the first quarter.
This, is when Senior Wideout Aaron Burbridge seized the day. His first touchdown capping a 5:40 long drive by way of what some are already calling the catch of the year. (see picture above)
His next score came just before halftime as he broke loose over the middle for a 32 yard touchdown grab. Once the game was over this would prove to be the straw that broke the camel's back.
Burbridge tallied his last touchdown of the day in the third quarter and this would give the Spartans the breathing room they would need. He would finish the day with a whopping 8 catches for 156 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Jale Robinette, and DJ Johnson's late touchdowns for the Falcons weren't enough to close the deficit. The Spartans win their second game at home 35-21. They are now 3-0 overall and 0-0 in conference play.
Next week they take on the upstart Chippewas coming off of a heartbreaking overtime loss to Syracuse.
