MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The new Central Fire Station in Meridian Township has experienced many setbacks this summer, but even with the bad weather and late deliveries the progress is moving.
Construction workers have started to put the drywall on the inside of the building. Insulation in the walls is going in, which is only happening because the roof is finished.
The roof is finished minus touch-ups, like trimming the edges. Electrical and mechanical are still progressing and very close to being finished. They will not finish some drywall until electrical is finalized.
The weather was the big setback this summer, but not so much anymore.
"Primary delays due to the weather were putting the roof on, because it was so soft that we couldn't bring that truck in, but other than that, pretty much the weather hasn't delayed us much," said Ray Severy, Meridian Township Engineer. "The weather did effect putting the sewer in, delayed a couple days there, but the sewer water is in now so now they can get to work on the parking lot."
As said, the parking lot is the next movement for construction. They have to fill, bring in the stone, and have the curb and gutter put in to complete the lot.
The completion date of the fire station has been pushed back to early or mid-January.
