LANSING - Four out of five children's car seats are installed incorrectly, and the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Patrol is trying to make the back seat a little safer for your little ones.
Last week was Child Passenger Safety Week, and an installation event was held in Lansing to help parents put kids in seats that are properly installed.
Many times, the mistake being made with the installation is a quick fix, like adjusting the seat's shoulder straps to sit properly.
"The leading cause for children 19 and under, are car crashes," said Mickie Kreft, the Injury Prevention Coordinator at Sparrow Hospital. "In Michigan alone, there were 27 fatalities of children 15 and younger in 2014. Trauma services, which is where I work, here at Sparrow Hospital, along with our community partners, such as Crippins, offering this car seat check today, we're trying to change those numbers."
If you are a Meridian Township resident who would like to schedule a car seat installation appointment, there is a local technicians right here in the Township.
Any resident can contact the Meridian Township Police Department to set up a 30-minute appointment.
