MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township has been recognized for its efforts in assisting the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) with identifying and combating the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease within the deer herd in Meridian Township.

The Township was recently awarded the Department of Natural Resources Partners in Conservation Award.

“The Township being the recipient of the award, it’s just one more thing that makes me proud to be a Township employee and a part of the police Department and a part of Meridian Township. We strive to improve the quality of life and to make things better in the Township. What it does is also show that we have a partnership with the DNR to handle the situation and that we are not done and that we’ll continue that partnership with the DNR to try and address this situation and prevent the spread or continued infection of deer with Chronic Wasting Disease in the future”," said Meridian Township Police Lieutenant Ken Plaga.

The award was presented at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) Committee meeting on Sept. 10.
