OKEMOS - Every year Okemos High School tries to do some work to the tennis courts, but at this point the wear and tear was too much. The courts needed more than just the regular maintenance, they needed to be totally redone.
The funding for the new tennis courts came from Okemos High School and Court One Athletics Club, that are located all across the Mid-Michigan area. Court One will also use the Okemos High courts to hold camps and tournaments. It'll be mutually beneficial.
"The tennis courts hadn't been replaced in a long time and we wanted to have the best courts we could for our student athletes. First and foremost we thought about safety and have the best courts the student athletes could possibly play on," said Athletic Director Ira Childress.
Childress went out to the tennis courts and without the students knowing who he was, he talked to the athletes and all they had was good things to say about the courts.
