MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Residents' safety is a top priority for Fire Inspector Tavis Millerov, which is why he makes sure that businesses owners follow necessary fire safety and prevention rules.

"We're trying to get compliance just to maintain things to the code, maintain this level of safety around not only for our residents but all of these people that come into the township and patronize our businesses. It's not just about keeping the residents safe, it's about keeping everybody safe," said Millerov.

Correct number of exit signs, properly tagged fire extinguishers, and correct placement of sprinklers are some of the things that Millerov looks for during his inspections.

And while some violations might lead to a ticket, or if severe enough, cause a business to shut down, Millerov explains that business owners shouldn't worry come inspection time.

"We're not out to get anybody. Fire prevention and having a fire inspection done is about maintaining a level of safety for all of the residents, all of our citizens, and all of the people that come in and use our businesses in Meridian Township," said Millerov. "Yeah, we may find some problems, but I'm also going to help you figure out how to fix those problems."
