MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A public input meeting was held on May 21, 2015, by the Planning Commission to discuss and refine seven goals and objectives for an updated Master Plan in a way that reflected the community's opinions.
Planning Commissioner Tom Deits attended the Township Board meeting on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, to present the updated Master Plan Summary, which included high priority topics from the public.
"River quality and access was a high priority, transport connectivity - this referred primarily to public transit, bus rapid transit and so forth, the satellite commercial districts - the smaller areas in the township that have small corners, supermarkets and so forth were an area of interest," said Deits.
The seven goals that resulted from the meeting are as follows:
Goal 1: Preserve and strengthen residential neighborhoods
Goal 2: Preserve open space and natural areas
Goal 3: Enhance the viability of township businesses
Goal 4: Maintain and expand a diverse park system
Goal 5: Maintain essential public services
Goal 6: Provide and support an efficient, safe and environmentally sensitive multi-modal transportation network
Goal 7: Promote efficient and sustainable growth principles
