MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Plans to establish a mixed use development proposed by Campus Village Develpment were discussed at the June 8th Planning Commission meeting.
If approved, the site would consist of 15,040 square feet of commercial space and 222 multiple family dwelling units. This new mixed use establishment will be called "The Avenue" and be located at 2655 Grand River Avenue. These units will be targeted towards young professionals and families.
Site developer John Gaber states that, "we're providing amenities for the benefit of the residents as well as for the public benefit." Gaber then went on to describe new site amenities such as a dog park and a fitness park.
Planning Commission Chair Patricia Jackson and Commissioner Brett DeGroff both objected to the plan because there isn't sufficient buffering area between the industrial project and the residential area.
Commission Chair John Scott-Craig would like to see site plan redesigned and downsized.
The Planning Commission failed to get enough votes at the meeting to approve the requests for the Special Use Permit or the Mixed Use Planned Planned Unit Development Permit.
A public hearing at the Township Board level is tentatively scheduled for July 7th regarding this project.
