MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Forsberg family plans to rezone about 40 acres north of Jolly Road on Kansas Street from professional office and industrial to commercial. It will be a mixed use planned unit development, with no more than 18 units per acre. About 6 of the 40 acres will be rural residential.
The Township Board voted and approved the rezoning at a 5 to 2 vote. Two of the board members felt that the area should not be C2 because of drainage issues.
“It’s very complicated there’s some drainage issues that need to be resolved. A few meetings ago we did approve a preliminary drain study to help address those questions as we move forward with the development at the Forsberg property," said Meridian Township Treasurer Julie Brixie.
The area has never been developed, and it was mostly used as a construction holding place and heavy trucking uses. There will be some dramatic changes made to the site to accommodate the new development.
The new development will be named "Okemos Pointe" and will have apartments geared toward professionals that don’t want to buy a home, but want an upscale apartment. There will also be a hotel, a gym, and other commercial uses.
