EAST LANSING - It was a beautiful afternoon for the Haslett and Dewitt ladies to take the pitch in a heated regional championship game. Dewitt dominated possession throughout both halves but was especially aggressive in the first.
The first Dewitt player to strike came right outside the 15 minute mark of the first half by way of a strong shot from outside the box by midfielder #18 Allison Sims. Dewitt kept up the pressure and made sure Haslett could not get any quality shots off. The strong attack lead to their second goal being scored on a drop shot that was knocked in by fellow midfielder #2 Erika Curley.
After the game, Head Coach Jamal Mubarakeh said that it was their plan to attack early in hopes of gaining momentum for the second half. His plan worked, and the Haslett girls had trouble keeping the ball out of their own territory for the remainder of the game. Dewitt did not slow up though, as #13 Callee Fisher found the back of the net for the lone goal of the second half. Goaltender Brooklyn Holley also notched a strong shutout in the 3-0 win. The girls play at the East Lansing Soccer Complex in the next round Saturday, May 30.
Coach Mubarakeh got his 601st win after tonight's game.
