LANSING - Magic Johnson was in back town to give back to the schools that helped raise him.
A fundraising dinner was held to benefit the Lansing Promise Scholarship, which helps students in the Lansing district to afford a college education. Tickets to the event started at $150 and went all the way up to $2,500, and with the help of Magic Johnson, $1,000,000 was raised for the program. After dinner, a range of speakers including local sports journalist Tim Stoudt and Michigan State Basketball coach Tom Izzo all had high praises for Johnson, who also spoke to the audience.
“It’s not about whether you can be successful, it’s how many people you can help become successful. That’s what the true blessing is. That's what we’re doing here tonight, to bless others,” said Johnson.
Johnson then held a Q and A session with the audience, while also calling up students that were present, and giving them advice and answering their questions.
