EAST LANSING - East Lansing 6-foot-8 freshman Brandon Johns has one weakness.
That is, of course, 6-foot-9 seniors who are finalists for Michigan's Mr. Basketball award. Lucky for Johns those don't come along too often, but in the district semis one did.
The ending was not so sweet for the Trojans.
Lansing Everett four-star forward and University of Oregon commit, Trevor Manuel, lit up East Lansing like he does most teams. With sheer power and athleticism Manuel blocked and dunked the ball time after time in the fourth quarter to put away East Lansing, 59-39, in Okemos.
Everett head coach Desmond Ferguson spoke on Manuel's game-high 25 point performance, taking his team to the district championship.
"You know, Trevor Manuel, speaks for itself," Ferguson said.
"He's played well all season. A Mr. Basketball candidate, he showed up and played like we expected him to play."
