MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Periodically throughout the year, Meridian Township receives revenue sharing from the state of Michigan.

Every year for the last 10 years Meridian Township has seen a steady decrease in the amount of revenue sharing they receive.

The most recent revenue sharing numbers are in, and this year Meridian Township saw an increase of almost $37,000. Part of that increase was due to a $17,000 increase in EVIP sharing.

The money for revenue sharing comes from Meridian Township's local community portion of the sales tax.

"That's great. I think that's an indicator that the economy is really improving and hope to see, continue to see, more revenue sharing coming from the state of Michigan," said Meridian Township Treasurer Julie Brixie.

How much of that money the Township receives from that sales tax is determined by a series of complex formulas that are apart of the state's constitution.

Revenue sharing funds are used for Meridian Township's daily operations.
