MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Tax Season is now upon us, and if you're having trouble finding an affordable way to get your tax returns done correctly, you might qualify for free assistance.
Doing taxes can be stressful for many residents, especially those of older age. That’s why the Meridian Senior Center is offering free tax assistance for those in need.
“We prefer people who are over 50, have low to moderate income, we try to serve the elderly, that’s our primary concern," said Volunteer Frank Tuma. "But we also serve younger people that may have a disability or have a hard time making ends meet.”
The program is appointment only, and is only available on Mondays from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. once a client calls for an appointment, the process is quite easy.
“When they come in, we have them fill out what we call an intake sheet, giving us their name, phone numbers, addresses, we need a photo id, we need their social security information, and then we sit down with them, go over that sheet to make sure we have all of the correct information to prepare a return," said Tuma.
“I think it’s very important to offer programs like this because there's many many people out there who just can’t afford two three hundred dollars to have their taxes prepared.”
To schedule an appointment just call the Meridian Senior Center at 517-706-5045. Appointments are available every Monday from now until April 13.
