LANSING - A recent bill was passed in the State of Michigan which outlines new requirements and laws for FOIA requests. the new bill limits the charge for copies to ten cents a piece, while also forcing citizens to pay for any of their previous FOIA requests that have not been paid for. the bill has forces many townships to change policies, however in meridian township, many of those policies have already been in place.

"We set it at ten cents, it's been many years we've done that," said Deputy Clerk Joan Horvath. "One of the other things is the labor charge, and they want it, the new law, separated on a statement and the labor would be in fifteen minute increments, we've already been doing that."

At the Township Board meeting on Jan. 20, the Board also voted to allow the township manager to process FOIA appeals in the future.
