MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At the Township Board meeting on Tuesday, October 21st the Board passed the 2015 recommended budget with a few minor adjustments.
The board voted 4-3 to join the Lansing Chamber of Commerce, which is a cost of a little under four hundred dollars annually. The motion was thoroughly debated, until narrowly passing.
After hearing from a gentleman from Meals on Wheels, the Board voted to increase their contribution to the program from $2,000 annually to $4,000 annually. The increase was unanimously approved. Although there was much deliberation, Meridian Township Finance Director Gretchen Gomolka says that the changes are relatively small in comparison to the overall budget
“Those are really insignificant changes to the budget," said Gomolka. "They were both to the general fund which is over a 17 million dollar budget, so 2,390 dollars is small and it’s something the board members were passionate about.”
Other motions were brought forward however none of them were approved.
