UPDATE:
HASLETT - With winter just around the corner, St. Lukes Church in Haslett is helping people prepare by giving away what a lot of people will need come winter. With enough members and help from the community, St. Lukes was able to run their coat bank for the third year. Elizabeth Brown is happy to help out at St. Lukes and be a coordinator for the project. The number of coats that they have given away has increased each year and they expect to help even more people this winter.
Brown: "We gave away 50 coats today and its 80 degrees, so that just tells me that I think we're going to do more."
Looking through the selection it is easy to see the amount of variety available for people of all shapes and sizes. Brown keeps everything a lot more organized than I would regardless of her impaired vision. Whether you are looking for yourself or your kids, St. Lukes seems to have something for everybody whether you are a member or not.
Brown: "What we are looking forward to is making sure we meet the needs of our community and that we're able to wrap everybody in the community who has a need for a coat and the love of Christ this winter."
They are giving away many winter necessities including hats, scarves, gloves, coats and boots for people of all ages. Although sometimes there is some handy-work that needs to be done.
All are welcome at St. Lukes and they feel they are here to help those people in need to get through the often cold Michigan winters.
