MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On the upcoming August 5 Primary Election ballot, voters will find a new proposal to remove Michigan's personal property tax effecting local business owners.
"So it's nothing that individual people have it's business property it's the equipment that is used to operate and run a business," said Julie Brixie, Meridian Township Treasurer.
The Michigan Legislature has placed an elimination and permanent reform package on the ballot regarding personal property.
For business owners this tax break could mean new equipment, a chance to create more jobs, and become more competitive in the community.
Although the legislature is very interested in giving tax breaks to businesses, a higher burden has been placed on retirees through pension taxes.
