MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Recently, there have been two cases in Meridian Township where the defendants were not competent to stand on trial.
One of them involving Ronald Ruhl, who fought with police officers naked, and the other involving Greg Basolo, who was charge with open murder for the homicide of his father.
Lieutenant Greg Frenger said, "Both individuals went to court and during the court proceedings, before the actual trial had even begun, there was a question about their mental competency. So in both cases, the individuals were sent to forensic centers by the judge and evaluated."
Competency must be established in order for the individuals to serve in their own defense.
Currently, Ruhl is still being evaluated, while Basolo was ruled competent to stand on trial.
A preliminary exam for Basolo has been scheduled for this week. With that said, there should be further developments made in his case.
