MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Whether it's visiting family for a few days or just going on a vacation to get away from the cold weather, a lot of people end up traveling over the holidays.
If you're one of those people, you may be interested in having a property check done by the Meridian Township Police.
If a property check is requested, police will check doors and windows to make sure there isn't any suspicious activity at the home.
If they find anything, such as signs of a potential break-in or a flood, they will contact the family right away and take care of the issue as quickly as possible.
Lieutenant Greg Frenger of the Meridian Township Police said,
"If we're, during the wintertime, leaving tracks in the snow, showing that somebody is there is important, I think, to deter people from breaking in."
Lieutenant Frenger added that those who choose not to make use of the program should contact a family member or neighbor to help make their home look lived-in.
He said you can set lights on timers in your home, as well as ask others to leave tire tracks or shovel the snow on your driveway.
