MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Three Sparrow Michigan Athletic Club Lifeguards were recognized and presented with awards on Thursday, Oct. 24 by the Meridian Township Fire Department and the American Red Cross.

The awards were given to them for their actions in rescuing a five-year-old boy from a pool this past summer.

Their quick actions, CPR and use of an automatic external defibrillator played a key role in the young boy's recovery.

Theresa Bodwin of Okemos, Robert Murphy of Lansing and Jane Wallenwine of Stockbridge were the lifeguards at this ceremony.

Many community members are happy that their heroic actions did not go unnoticed.
