MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Township Board has finally molded the next step for their current art project.
On October 15th, Meridian Township Manager Mark Walsh got the ok to draft and execute a contract with artist Tom Higgins.
Higgins was one of nine applicants who submitted a proposal for a sculpture that will adorn the Marsh and Hamilton Road roundabout.
A panel of six judges assessed the various proposals, finally deciding on Higgin's sculpture design.
The piece called Prime Meridius will be funded by the $10,000 Placemaking Public Art Grant given by the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP).
"I think it's great because it really ties in something, and not just in the name, but in the concept of geography and balance and I just think it's a really very nice piece of work from the way the design looks," said Meridian Township Clerk Brett Dreyfus.
The sculpture has to be finished by March 2014 and will be installed no later than April 2014.
