MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Plans are moving forward for Meridian Township's new Central Fire Station, which will be built west of the Okemos Post Office on Central Park Drive. Township employees are working with architects from the company DLZ Michigan, Inc. to develop a functional, environmentally friendly station that will replace the current Central Fire Station.
The project architect predicts that the project will be very close to budget, but alternatives will be included in the construction bid, allowing for cuts to be made if funds are short.
Project supervisors are still discussing the design of drainage systems for the site, but overall, the project is on schedule. Construction is expected to begin in October.
Before construction of the Central Fire Station can begin, the Planning Commission must approve a Special Use Permit allowing it to be built in a residential district. The architect recently submitted the permit, so it will be discussed at the August 26th Planning Commission meeting.
