UPDATE:
LANSING - The Greater Lansing Food Bank's logo is undergoing a change, as well as the whole operation. The Mid Michigan Food Bank and the Greater Lansing Food Bank are now one unified organization.
"We thought for a long time that this would make sense. There was confusion in the community, people would say The Food Bank, and people in the community wouldn't know which was what," Joe Wald, executive director of the Greater Lansing Food Bank.
"The Greater Lansing Food Bank was also a food banking operation. We received donations and redistributed it. But we were primarily a fund-raising organization. So Mid Michigan brought the food in, and redistributed it, and we paid for it," he said.
"We just thought that for what we do, feeding people who might otherwise be hungry, taking donations from the community, it just made sense to combine the operations, to eliminate the duplications, to really focus on how can we most efficiently, effectively, and compassionately feed people in need. And the way to do that would be to really combine the operations, " Wald said.
