UPDATE: LANSING - Effective July 1st, synthetic marijuana and synthetic drugs are banned in the state of Michigan.

These substances currently sold by the names of K2, Spice, White Rush, Purple Sky, and Vanilla Rain have been said to cause serious health problems including violent behavior and psychosis. The new law signed by Governor Snyder prohibits retailers from selling these chemicals.

Mark Meadows (D), State Representative of 69th District said, "It's an improvement in the way that we address these issues. It was widely supported by both Democrats and Republicans so it was a bipartisan effort by the legislature and the Governor to address a developing problem within our society."

These designer drugs should be off the shelves or the seller could face felony charges up to seven years and possession can bring two years. Law enforcement is encouraging people to call the state tip line at 855-MIC-HTIP if they see anyone selling or using the drug.
