UPDATE:
OKEMOS - According to U.S. News and World Report, Okemos high school ranked top 4 in the state in 2012. The rank was based on several factors including student/teacher ratio, college readiness, and math and reading scores.
Nearly 22,000 public high schools were listed in the America's Best High Schools and more than 200 were from Michigan.
Jennifer Madden is a Junior at Okemos high school and she appreciates all the teachers hard work for students. "I am definitely proud to go to it because I know I am getting a good education and I know it will be good for future going to college because we all work really hard," said Madden.
Okemos high school has ranked top in the state a few times in the past but the Principal Christine Sermak believes it's not all about rankings. "It is about the atmosphere. Because it's an amazing atmosphere to learn and to grow, it's a family. Even tho we have 1300 students, it feels like a family," said Sermak.
The top five schools for 2012 in the state are International Academy in Bloomfield Hills, Black River Public School in Holland, Grosse Pointe South High School in Grosse Pointe Farms, Okemos High School in Okemos, and Frankenmuth High School in Frankenmuth.
Locally, East Lansing, Haslett, Owosso, and Hillsdale high schools also made the state's top 50.
