MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - New Meridian Township Board Trustees, Scott Hendrickson and Marna, were appointed at the recent Township Board meeting on March 15, 2022.
With the sad loss of beloved Township Supervisor, Ron Styka, former Trustee Jackson was appointed Township Supervisor.
This, along with the recent promotion of former Trustee, Dan Opsommer, to Assistant Township Manager and Director of Public Works, left two open spots to be filled for Trustee positions.
Township Treasurer, Phil Deschaine said, “We had nine citizens apply for this position and all nine were excellent candidates. It was difficult to narrow that number down to three.”
With difficulty, the Board narrowed down the possible candidates to three, Linda Burghardt, Scott Hendrickson, and Marna Wilson. Each candidate came to the Town Hall Room at 3 P.M. on March 15, and were given interviews.
Following the interviews, the Board began the decision making process and chose the two candidates needed to fill the spots. Appointment of the trustees took place during the meeting.
Deschaine said, “two candidates really stood out above a few, those which I am about to nominate here. The first would be Scott Hendrickson, I move to appoint Scott Hendrickson as Township Trustee.”
Scott has been the chair of the planning commission and led the planning commission through hard times. He has a strong background in public policy and The Township Board is impressed with his vision and his goals for teamwork within the Board.
Trustee Courtney Wisinski said, “Mr. Hendrickson was an exceptional candidate and he has provided a lot of community service. His passion for Meridian was exhibited in his interview and his pride for Meridian.I feel he will help to fill a gap we have in this board and I am excited and honored to work with him”
The motion to appoint Hendrickson as Township Board Trustee from March 15, 2022 to November 20, 2022 was voted in unanimously.
The next candidate to be appointed was Marna Wilson.
Deborah Guthrie, Township Clerk said, “Marna has years of dedicated service to this community. Years of volunteer service, years of knowledge on boards of commissions. She is incredibly humble with the amount of giving she gives to this community.”
Wilson has previously held a position on the Board in the 90’s. She was one of the original board members who put together the plan to develop the Nokomis Learning Center. The Board sees a lot of similarities between their views and the views Wilson holds. She is passionate about public service and spends much of her time doing this.
Like Hendrickson, the motion to appoint Wilson to Township Trustee from March 15, 2022 to November 20, 2022 was a unanimous vote among the Board.
