MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - As the last weeks of winter approach, multiple winter activities are still available in Meridian Township.
Sledding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and an artificial ice skating rink are all located throughout the Township.
Winter activities bring opportunities for outdoor fun in the community.
Mike Devlin, parks and Recreation specialist, said, “We are gearing up for Spring/Summer activities but the ice rink will be up until the end of April.”
The artificial ice rink, located at the Marketplace on the green Pavilion, was brought to the township in November and is open from dawn to 9 P.M. daily, seven days a week.
LuAnn Maisner, Director of Parks and Recreation, said, “Traditional ice rinks are difficult to maintain throughout the winter months, due to unpredictable temperatures. This artificial ice rink will provide a consistent opportunity for outdoor fun this winter! This surface is slower than real ice, but overall provides the same experience.”
Sledding is located at North Meridian Road Park, a 60-acre park that is popular all year round. In the winter, families love going down the sledding hill. This area is open from dawn to 11 P.M. everyday and offers a handmade sled library available for usage at North Meridian Road Park. Donated sleds are also welcome at the sled library.
Cross country skiing is available at Lake Lansing Park North on Saturdays and Sundays. There are over 5 miles of trails to ski through scenic hardwood forest and marsh.
Skis are available to rent or people can bring their own. Picture identification is required to rent equipment. For children to rent skis, adults must be present and provide a driver’s license.
Snowshoe rentals are available at Harris nature center Tuesday through Saturday from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M for $10, or you can bring your own. HNC offers snowshoeing trails for beginners and experts.
These activities will be available until April 2022 and offer great outdoor exercise opportunities for friends and family.
