MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, MI - Meridian Township and Ingham County are partnering up with MDOT to make improvements along M-43.
MDOT is providing $14.7 million dollars to fix surface and drainage issues along M-43. The investment will be used to fix joint and crack repairs, curb and gutter replacement, spot drainage repairs, sidewalk ramp upgrades compliant with the American with Disabilities Act, pedestrian island installation, pavement marking upgrades, and traffic signal improvement.
Meridian Township and Ingham County Drain Commission teamed up with MDOT to focus on drain upgrades in the area. Both organizations will be working together to relocate 200 feet of a 16-inch water main, along with upgrading the Okemos and Gettenberger drains.
The project is expected to lessen the impact and frequency of flooding in the area.
Tree clearing will begin in March, and road work will follow shortly after in April. The project is anticipated to be complete by June of 2023.
Traffic will be slightly affected, as each direction will be reduced to one lane. However, access to business along the road will not be altered.
There are a lot of aspects of this project, which Greg Losch, MDOT Lansing Manager, says took a lot of coordination.
“We have been working on this a long time, and each individual agency had to iron out their own details before we could incorporate them together,” Losch said. “Now that we have that information we are here to get input, answer questions, and continue to move the process forward.”
Further public meetings to discuss progress within the project are scheduled for March, and more will be added if needed.
Along with public meetings, An M-43 project website will be completed soon. Residents will be able to use the website to check project updates, presentations slides, meeting links and more.
