LANSING, MI - For the first time since June of 2020, there have been no new daily reported cases of COVID-19 in Ingham County.
There are currently 263 active reported COVID-19 cases in Ingham County, for a total of 22,683 confirmed cases, 22,044 recovered cases, and 376 reported deaths.
COVID-19 hospitalizations are decreasing in Ingham County, and trending in a promising direction. Since an uptick in April, COVID-19 hospitalizations have continued to decrease, plateau, and decrease again. This week was no different, with hospitalizations plateauing, and expected to decrease again.
The cumulative curve of confirmed cases is also starting to plateau, after steady growth throughout the Spring. There have not been enough new confirmed cases to maintain this growth, and the incident curve is the lowest it has been since June of 2020.
Area code 48823 has the highest number of reported cases, followed by 48911, while 48911 has the highest reported number of deaths, followed by 48910.
Ingham County reflects the United States as a whole, with the highest percentage of reported cases in the 20-29 age group.
143, 839 Ingham County residents age 16 and up have received at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“There are enough vaccines for every single person in this country,” said Linda Vail, Ingham County Health Officer. “But every single person in this country at this point in time is not wanting a vaccine.”
Vail maintains a positive attitude going into the summer.
“We’re going into a very good time this summer, in terms of low case rates, low transmission in the community, low percent positivity, that should result in very low hospitalization rates, very few deaths, and we’re hopeful that we maintain that through the summer.”
Vail predicts clusters of cases or small outbreaks to happen in the fall, however, these will be more prominent amongst unvaccinated people.
“We shouldn’t see significant surges, but we will see outbreaks in cases until we get more people vaccinated.”
