OKEMOS - Unofficial results for the May 4 Special Election in Ingham County were posted on the Ingham County Clerk's Office website as of 11:11 pm on Tuesday, May 3. In Meridian Township, voters in the Okemos Public School District voted on two school proposals and both proposals passed.
Okemos Public Schools Operating Millage Renewal Proposal
[X] Yes - 3,522 votes
[ ] No - 800 votes
This proposal will allow the school district to continue to levy the statutory rate of not to exceed 18 mills on all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, required for the school district to receive its revenue per pupil foundation allowance and renews millage that will expire with the 2021 tax levy.
Okemos Public Schools Sinking Fund Millage Proposal
[X] Yes - 2,972 votes
[ ] No - 1,345 votes
For a period of 10 years, 2022 to 2031, this proposal is to create a sinking fund for the construction or repair of school buildings, for school security improvements, for the acquisition or upgrading of technology and all other purposes authorized by law; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2022 is approximately $1,388,700.
The turnout for this election in Meridian Township was 23.35% with a total of 4,332 voters.
