MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - As part of HOMTV’s Women’s History Month special, HOMTV interviewed female leaders who head different departments in Meridian Township, including Communications Manager for Meridian Township Brandie Yates.
Yates said she feels empowered to be a female leader in Meridian Township.
“It’s really great to see that we are inspiring women to be in technology,” Yates said. “There’s a whole push for STEM at grade school levels and high school, getting people, women, specifically girls, interested in technology and math and science. I think it’s really great that in that part of the job, that the boy’s club is no longer, there’s a lot of technical savvy women and girls coming up through the ranks and it’s really great to see.”
On top of overseeing the Communications Department as a whole, Yates said she also oversees the internship program being the Executive Producer for HOMTV and loves working with such fantastic women in the department.
“It’s been a long road for women to be in these leadership positions and there’s still a lot of work to be done, obviously at those levels and when you look at Equal Pay Day, but it feels great,” Yates said.
Not only does her job allow her to work with the public, Meridian Township residents and interns, but it also gives her the creative outlet she needs in communications and television.
“If you love it, it definitely won’t feel like a job and that’s definitely how I feel,” Yates said.
Yates said her favorite part of her job is the people.
